Godmanchester Rovers 1 Mulbarton 2
5/11/06
Injury ravished Rovers could only field nine players
for the start of this cup tie. Despite this Rovers started well and with fifteen minutes gone took a shock 1-0 lead when Emily
Ingle shot home from 15 yards out after a knock down by Claire Radford. Mulbarton looked shell shocked as Rovers continued
to attack however the game changed completley when Rovers centre back Emma Shaw came off with a hamstring injury in the 17th
Minute. Mulbarton made hard work of breaking down the gutsy Rovers team however they finally drew level on thirty minutes.
Just before half time a scuffed clearance saw the Mulbarton striker knock the ball home for a 2-1 half time lead. The
second half saw the eight Rovers players come out with real fight and determination. Amazingly Rovers were by far the better
team in the second half and look the more likely to score. Mulbarton hit the panic button and defended their 2-1 lead. Final
score 2-1 to Mulbarton.
"In the second half we only had eight players on the pitch and two of those had twisted ankles.
We could not believe it when the Mulbarton players were told to shut up shop with twently minutes to play. Our players
did themselves and their club proud putting in such a gutsy performance when other teams may have taken the option to drop
to six players and have the game abandoned".
