Stevenage Vixens 2 Godmanchester Rovers Ladies 1
Having beaten the
league leaders last week Rovers travelled to Stevenage knowing that a win would put them top of the league.
Unfortunately Rovers
were missing a couple of players and had to field a make shift defence however they got off to a great start when in the first minute a pass from Becks Finch fell to Sarah
Gee who chipped the Stevenage keeper for an early 1-0 lead. Rovers were dominant and created a hat full of chances with Becks Finch and Claire Radford both hitting
the post.
The Stevenage goal
seemed to be living a charmed life with all of Rovers chances going just wide or hitting the woodwork. Just before half time a mistake from one of the Rovers centre backs
let in Stevenage for their first chance of the game which they duly put away for a half time score of 1-1.
Stevenage were more organised in the second half, took control
of the midfield and started to create chances. The make shift Rovers defence looked vulnerable and Stevenage soon took a 2-1 lead. Some excellent saves from the Rovers keeper
kept them in the game and Rovers switched to a 3-4-3 formation to go looking for the equaliser. In the last fifteen minutes Rovers once again created the better
chances but could not finish.
“Having beaten
the top teams in our league today’s result was very disappointing. When one player has a bad game you can change things
but when three or four are below par
there is not a lot you can do. Poor finishing cost us three points and certain players including those who did not turn up because they had been out partying must take the
blame. You must show commitment to win this league and sadly some players are lacking it”
