Eastern Region Womens League Division 1

Cottenham Utd Ladies 2  Godmanchester Rovers Ladies 2

For the first time in nearly a month Rovers had the luxury of actually having eleven players for a game. Perri Jeffries and Emma Shaw both returned to the Goddy team after recovering from a injury but Goddy were still without Key Midfielder Laura McAllister. Despite this it was Cottenham who started the stronger and took control of midfield. On twenty minutes a weak shot from the Cottenham striker bobbled between the legs of the Rovers keeper for a 1-0 lead. Soon afterwards Godmanchesr broke from midfield and a pass into the Cottenham penalty area was handled by a Cottenham defender. Emily Ingle stepped up and slotted the penalty away to equalise. Later in the half both teams hit the post and Rovers created the better chances but Cottenham Goalkeeper made 3 fantastic saves to denie the Goddy team from going ahead
The second half once again saw Cottenham start the stronger however they failed to capitalise. Cottenham looked the more likely to win and midway through the 2nd half they took a 2-1 lead. A run from Emma Dainty down the left wing and her precision cross forced an attempted headed clearance from a Cottenham defender which went into her own net for a Rovers equaliser. Both teams tried to win the game but some poor finishing from both teams resulted in a 2-2 draw.
"It was a very scrappy game and not a good game of football to watch with basic errors being made all over the pitch. All our previous league games with Cottenham have ended in a draw so 2-2 was par for the course and overall a fair result"
