KETTERING TOWN LADIES 3  GODMANCHESTER ROVERS LADIES 3

Injury ravaged Godmancehster travelled to Kettering with only ten fit players. Goddy started the game with a back four of Perri,Emily,Emma S and Emma D. In midfield we played a diamond formation with Karen as the defensive midfielder and Sarah Gee in centre midfield with Claire and Laura playing out wide and Andrea starr on her return from a knee injury after being out for over a season up front on her own .Severval players had to play out of position but every player played there socks off today somthing which was a complete contrast of last weeks performance

In scorching hot conditions Rovers started the game well, soaking up continued attacks from Kettering. On fifteen minutes Godmanchester delivered the sucker punch when they counter attacked and Andrea Starr hit a low shot to open the scoring for Rovers. Despite the searing heat both teams continued to play end to end football and just before half time a fumbled corner saw Kettering equalise. Despite being a player down Rovers lifted their game and a shot from Laura McAllister just inside the area gave Goddy a 2-1 lead. Kettering were visibly shaken by the grit and determination of the ten Rovers players but Kettering soon got back  into the game when defensive mistake lead to Kettering scroing and making it 2-2

Half time score was 2-2

Kettering came out in the second half determined to win the game and they create several chances but couldnt get that goal until in the 60minute when  a unmarked Kettering player scored from a corner with a tap in. Goddy never gave up and kept going and were awarded when in the 70minute Goddy won a corner and the corner was headed home by Claire Radford to make the score 3-3

Both teams continued to create chances and battled to the end with a final score of 3-3.

“We were really proud of our players who gave 110% in difficult conditions. During the first half three of our players were injured but they refused to come off and let their mates down, the team spirit was fantastic. Both teams had the chance to win the game but on reflection a draw was a fair result”.

Next Sunday Goddy are at home to Sawbridgeworth in there first home game of the season ,which will be another very tough game as Sawbridgeworth are favourites to get promoted this season after finishing 2nd in the league last season. Becks Thoday should return after 3months out with a broken arm ,Zoe DeGrussa and Yaz Icklin should return to the sqaud aswell
